Back pain and physiotherapy
Back pain can cause much agony. It interferes in one’s daily chore activities. One finds it difficult to move around. One feels like lying down although it is advised to move around.
Various therapies are available to treat back pain. Physiotherapy is one. Doctors recommend physiotherapy to patients so that they can get relief from the pain in the back.
Nearly 80% of Americans suffer from back pain in some form or the other. In fact, it is universal problem, that world over people face.
In some cases, the pain is temporary and does not last for too long. On the other hand some find the back pain very severe and need some form of treatment such as physiotherapy
How is physiotherapy useful for back pain?
Physiotherapy is useful in treating low back pain. There are various types of physiotherapy exercises.
- Acupuncture – This is becoming a popular form of physiotherapy. Needles are inserted across the back. The doctor completes the procedure for the low back pain. Pain relief lasts usually for months.
- Massage – One can also go in for massage. The massage must be performed by someone who is well informed about in the treatment of low back pain. If the massage is done by an untrained person, it can do more harm.
- Ultrasound – This is a passive form of treatment for acute back pain. It not only provides relief, but helps in healing. This form of treatment provides heat deep quite deep into one’s muscles of the lower part of the back.
- Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator (TENS) – One can go in for this form of treatment. The patient will experience the feeling of the stimulator rather than pain. This form of treatment helps in low back pain. If this form of treatment helps, then the patient is given one to take home with him. Apart from providing relief from pain, it also helps in the healing process.
- Exercises – A physiotherapist can recommend exercises for the back pain. These exercises must be performed properly and carefully. These exercises are usually carried out under the supervision of a physiotherapist and later on can be done at home as well. Lower back exercise also helps in providing relief from pain in that part of the body.
- Aerobic exercises such as walking are also very good. They help in reducing the pain and also preventing it.
Physio-therapy is very beneficial for treating back pain. Although a physiotherapist is required to perform them, but once they are learnt then one can do them in the comforts of one’s home.
