Back Pain during Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a difficult period in a woman’s life. Not only are there psychological changes, but she also experiences several physical changes in the body. Back pain is one such experience that she often faces. The strain on the back is there during pregnancy and the weight also adds to it.

Nearly half to three quarters of pregnant women face back pain sometime during their phase of pregnancy. Of course much can be done to get relief from the pain. Many women who have been suffering from back pain prior to the pregnancy find that their back pain comes down as the pregnancy progresses.

Causes of back pain during pregnancy

  • Pressure on the ligaments, joints and muscles caused due to overstrain due to poor postures.
  • Bad lifting techniques.
  • Tight or weak muscles or perhaps injury.
  • In case one has been on one’s feet for a very long time then one suffers from back pain. The muscles become tight due to overweight.
  • Some women suffer from sciatia during their pregnancy. This is caused due to inflammation or perhaps pressure which results in the sciatica nerve being painful.

Prevention of back pain during pregnancy

  • One must as far as possible fit before pregnancy.
  • Moderate exercise is good.
  • Avoid lifting heavy things.

Treatment for back pain during pregnancy

  • Massage the lower as well as aching back.
  • A warm bath helps.
  • One can make use of a support belt.
  • A pillow placed under the tummy acts as support.
  • Stability and strength exercises.
  • Acqua-natal classes are beneficial.
  • Posture should be correct.
  • Bending and lifting properly.
  • Sleep on the side.
  • Staying fit.
  • Cold, or heat or perhaps a back rub.
  • Pelvic tilt exercises.

Pregnant women face back pain. They can take preventive measures to reduce it.
