How to treat Stretch Marks?

Stretch marks are the fine lines that are formed on the body. These are usually caused at the time of puberty due to the physical changes in the body. They are a condition where the tissue under the skin gets stretched due to sudden growth. The symptoms that usually accompany stretch marks are fine lines along the body in reddish or purple color lines with different kinds of textures on the skin.

  • The best solution to this problem is to drink loads of water. This is because water increases the elasticity of skin and hence prevents the appearance of stretch marks. So don’t forget to get you 8 glasses of water everyday.
  • Be sure to include a balanced diet in your daily food. You should be able to include less fatty food and more nutrient rich diet. This way you can also avoid weight gain which is one of the main reasons for stretch marks.
  • Whenever you find time, massage on the stretch marks. This proves very beneficial in their reduction of size. You can also use olive oil, flaxseed oil, vitamin E oil or cod liver oil at the time of massage.
  • Lack of exercise can cause your skin to stretch and loosen. The best way to avoid this is to tome your body through regular exercise.
  • Use a moisturizer that contains cocoa butter. This has been proved to be effective in treating stretch marks.
  • You can also use lotions that contain alpha hydoxy acid (AHA). This helps in the removal of dead skin cells and encourages the growth of healthier skin cells. This is a long term cure so should be used regularly.
  • Lotions that contain vitamin A, C and E are also helpful in removing stretch marks.
  • Surgical Treatment is another new age method of removal of stretch marks. This includes Chemical peeling and laser treatment. These treatments can be used only to a certain depth; this allows the skin to be removed without scaring. This kind of treatment is usually done taking into consideration the person’s age and skin color. This treatment cannot be performed on people with dark skin.
  • Dermabrasion is also another latest method of stretch marks removal. The difference between laser treatment and dermabrasion is that the outer layer of the skin is removed in this process. This is a surgical procedure.
