Diabetes is on the increase in the United States with adults as well as children suffering from it. Obesity is a major problem in the U.S. and even children are suffering from it, as they tend to spend more time watching television and video games. They lack exercise and eat fast foods adding calories. Excessive weight can lead to diabetes.
What is diabetes?
Diabetes is a disease whereby the pancreas does not produce insulin to convert sugar into energy. Diabetes has side-effects too. It affects health in many ways. Many suffer from memory loss. One experiences problem related to cognition and finds it difficult to remember things.
How diabetes affects memory?
It is alright to forget things occasionally and then remembering them later on since advancing age does have its effect on memory. Even youngsters have memory problems and they find it difficult to remember facts and this could be a serious problem.
How to prevent memory loss?
- Diet plays an important role in fighting against this tendency. One must eat a lot of fresh fruits as well as vegetables, low fat dairy products, lean meat and legumes. One also must take foods that are high in magnesium, chromium, zinc. Diet must consist of more protein, fiber as well as calcium. These stimulate the blood flow.
- Regular exercise.
- Reading.
- Solving crossword puzzles.
- Hobbies.
Memory loss can be caused by other diseases also so it is important to check out whether one is suffering from diabetes.
If diabetes is checked in its early stages then memory loss can be minimized. Memory loss can occur at anytime. By bringing about necessary changes in lifestyle and staying mentally and physically active, one will lead a longer as well as healthier life.
Diabetics do suffer memory problems but they need to take necessary precautions such a having a proper diet, exercise etc in order to lessen the effect on the memory.
