Dull Eyes
Eyes are often called the window to a person’s soul and if you believe that statement, you sure wouldn’t want to be one to show the world your soul through dull windows.
Dull eyes is more common than most people realize. Usually considered a sign of fatigue and sleeplessness, dull eyes can make a person appear haggard and aged. For people who do have dull eyes, a health check up may be required.
One of the foremost symptoms of ill health are the loss of sparkle from the eye. This loss of sparkle is not only in terms of the physical health but also mental or emotional turmoil. Often, people who have dull eyes are tormented emotionally due to a circumstance or a situation which is either out of their control or with which they are unable to deal.
Such a case is not uncommon. In fact everyday, hundreds of people all over the world visit psychologists to discuss situations that have been causing anxiety or sleeplessness and therefore uninspired, unanimated dull eyes.
Dull eyes can often be a symptom of physical disorders or diseases, some of which include:
- Aging and dull eyes – Due to the natural loss of collagen and thinning of the skin around the eyes, the skin around the eyes can begin to turn dark and wrinkled. Usually one of the first sings of aging, dull eyes are often associated with the natural processes of growing old.
- Eye problems like cataract – When the lenses of the eyes become opaque, the eyes automatically lose not only their power to see, but also their charm and their twinkle. Eye problems like corneal ulcers can also cause the brightness to disappear from the eyes.
- Other chronic illnesses which cause a lot of malaise like cancer, tuberculosis etc.
- Hormonal imbalances – Certain periods in a person’s life, like menopause in a woman, when she is experiencing a sudden surge and change in hormones, can cause the eyes to appear dull.
- Shock – In the state of shock, the blood circulation may get disrupted, causing the eyes to appear dull.
