Exercise in winter can lift spirits

The chill of the winter can dampen the spirits of most people. It can de-motivate them, particularly those who love exercising. One might hesitate to go for walks on an icy pathway or jog while side- stepping icy patches on the way. One hesitates to go to the gym as one has to wipe the ice on the windshield of the car. Everything seems irksome in winter months.

Even though it is cold in winter, one must continue to exercise. Not only does exercise help you lift your spirits, but also gets you ready for wearing swimsuits and sorts in the coming warm weather.

One has to make certain adjustments in one’s routine in order to exercise in challenging conditions says Tony Breitbach, director of athletic training education at Saint Louis University. Winter is a tough time, but one must not give up exercises.

“A change in weather should bring change in your mindset,” says Breitbach. ” As temperature gets colder you need to have winter sports strategy.”

While exercising outdoor, it is necessary to dress properly. Wear stuff that has layers so that you can peel it off. The layer closet to the skin must be made out of “breathable wiking material” and not “sweat-absorbing cotton.” One must then add a layer of cotton or fleece or cotton for keeping warm. Finally, one must put on a windbreaker or outer layer which is waterproof.

The parts of the body which are vulnerable to extremities must be well protected. Insulate them well such as the face, toes as well as fingers. In case, there is tingling sensation or pain then one must come out of the cold immediately, says Breitbach.

One also loses a great amount of heat through the head. One must not forget this.

One of course feels less thirsty in winter, but one must drink lots of water while exercising. Avoid caffeine. As well as beverages that are alcohol based as these can cause dehydration.

If one is running in the dark, then it better to wear clothes that are reflective so that the other person can see you.

It is import to warm up inside the room in case it is cold outside and you are planning to go out. One can do some stretching exercise in order for limbering up.

To make the exercise very exciting one can go for ice-skating or cross-country skiing.
