Gardasil vaccine approved by FDA for the prevention of genital warts among men
The usage of the cervical cancer vaccine Gardasil has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for preventing genital warts. These warts occur due to human. Papillomavirus (HPV) types 6 and 11 found among boys and among men between the ages 9 to 26.
Every year 2 out of every 1,000 men in the US have been newly diagnosed suffering from genital warts, claims the FDA.
Gardasil is presently recommended for girls between the age group of 9 thru 26 for preventing cervical, vaginal and vulvar cancer, which is caused by HPV types 16 and 18; also pre-cancerous lesions caused by types 6,11, 16, 18 as well as genital warts caused by types 6 and 11 reports the agency.
HPV happens to be the most commonly occurring sexually transmitted infection in the US and most of the genital warts are caused by HPV infection.
The cervical cancer vaccine Cervarix has also been approved by FDA claims the maker of the drugs GlaxoSmithKline. It had been delayed since 2007 since FDA was in need of more information from Glaxo, according to Associated Press.

The study included 15 men who rubbed the same ointment rubbed on two parts of their forearm. The men were informed that each part had a different cream- “lidocaine” that happened to be strong local anesthetic and a non-medicinal control cream. After applying the cream, a hot stimulus had been placed on both the parts of the forearm and kept it there for 20 seconds, reports Los Angeles Times.
Although both the creams happen to be identical, the men felt lidocaine ointment was able to reduce pain by 26 %. Using the MRI, the researchers were able to detect less activity in the spinal cord of the men, when they believed lidoclaine ointment was protecting them.
The findings indicate show that a painful stimulus was required to get to the spinal cord, not all the way to one’s brain in order to be influenced by the effect of placebo wrote the researchers, according to The Times.
