Life Expectancy hits high in the US

Life expectancy has gone up to 78 years in the US, which is quite a record, claim the federal officials of health.

From the time of birth in 2007, women can have expectations of living up to 80.4 on an average and men up to 75.3 years, based upon reports from the US. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Although American can hopefully expect to live longer than their own parents, the life expectant in the U.S is much lower as compared to other developed countries such as Japan and Canada.

The death rate in the U.S has come down to 760.3 deaths per 100,000 people, which happens to be the continuation of long standing trend.

Co-author Arialdi M. Minino, who is a statistician at CDC’s Center for Health Statistics, Division of Vital Statistics.

“Ever since the 1980s, the death rate has been decreasing in the United States.” According to him, there are less number of deaths due to stroke, heart disease, and cancer. The report is of course based on collected data from about 90% of U.S. death certificates.

According to the report, life expectancy during 2007 had increased to 77.9 years or 77 years and 11 months, which has gone from 77.7 years in 2006. Since 2000, life expectancy has gone up to 1.4 years.

The five major causes of death are stroke, heart disease, cancer, chronic respiratory disease as well as accidents. These factors account about 64% of all deaths.

Life expectancy going up would mean that people are maintaining better health. In other words there is more concern towards better health.
