Normal cholesterol will not necessarily ensure a healthy heart

Those people having normal levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol have to be screened for the marker purposes of inflammation. In order to be able to recognize those who perhaps will be able to benefit from cholesterol-lowering statin therapy to lessen their longer-term of risks of stroke, heart attack or death according to U.S. researchers.

“This study builds on results from the landmark JUPITER trail, which showed the statins can prevent heart disease in people with normal LDL-c, or bad cholesterol, and increased level of CRP”, says study co-author Dr. Christine Ballytyne, director of the center for the Cardiovascular Disease Prevention at the Methodist DeBekey Heart and Vascular Center in Houston in a news release.

C-reactive protein (CRP) is a blood-bone marker of the inflammation that has been for quite some time linked to cardiovascular risk.
