Hemps happen to belong to the fiber family of Cannabis sativa plant. For over thousand years, hemp has been cultivated for industrial purposes. It has been used to produce rope, paper, canvas and clothing till other textiles were discovered.

It has traditionally been a coarse fiber, more suited for making ropes rather than cloth, meant to worn over delicate skin of the human beings.
