Home Remedies for Sciatica
Sciatica refers to pain related to the sciatic nerve. The common cause of sciatica is due to the pressure being placed on the sciatica nerve by the piriformis muscle. Muscle imbalances tend to pull up the hip joints. This change in positioning of the piriformis muscle places pressure on the sciatica nerve.
Home Remedies for Sciatica
The primary home remedies for sciatica are:
- Juices of celery leaves and potatoes. These juices can be taken in combination in order to get relief from sciatica. One can drink them in a minimal quantity of 10 ounces on a daily basis. One can add carrots and beetroots for strength and taste.
- One can drink celery tea throughout the day.
- One can also take elderberry juice as well as elderberry tea. This is a quite a known relaxant and helps in the treatment of sciatica symptoms.
- One can take raw garlic or even garlic supplements. One can have this with other supplements such as Vitamin B1 or B-complex. The natural sources of B-complex are Spinach, Green peas, Beef, Liver, Pork, Navy, Pinto Beans, Bananas, Breads, Cereals, Legumes and unpolished rice.
- One can also eat raw sauerkraut in order to get rid of muscular pain.
- Horseradish poultice is also good.
- One can prepare garlic milk in cooked or uncooked form.
- Take about 2-4 tablespoonful of mustard oil. Heat the content and fry about 2 to 3 cloves of some crushed garlic and atleast a spoonful of omun seeds that have been pounded. Cool the content to a bearable temperature. Filter the content and use it for massaging the joint that is painful.
- Nutmeg is also useful for sciatica. Coarsely powder a nutmeg and fry it in gingelry oil until the particles turn brown in color. This oil can be applied on the affected parts in the form of pain reliever.
- The chamomile herb is very valuable. The extracted oil of the herb needs to be rubbed on the affected parts. One can make use of compress of chamomile flower, which can be useful in treating sciatica nerve pain.
How to treat sciatica?
- Stretches – Stretching of the one’s upper and lower back.
- Exercise – One can go in for exercises such as hip-rotators, in-line skating, tennis, basketball.
- Medication – anti-inflammatory drugs.
- A good diet.
- Sleeping on the mattress that is firm.
- Standing and sitting properly, that is one’s posture must be right.
- Massage.
Sciatica can cause much discomfort. One can treat it the conventional way as well as by using home remedies.
