  • Generally, these carpenter ants are found in moist wood and leaky faucets. It is better to ensure that wet wood is got rid of and leaky faucets fixed. All rotting wood needs to be thrown away.
  • Diatomaceous earth can be used to get rid of carpenter ants by mixing it with boric acid and sprinkling the nest with it.
  • Make holes on the wall. Let them be about 1/8inch in size and fill them with boric acid. Drill holes on the sides of the nest and fill it with boric acid.
  • Mix garlic powder with white vinegar and spray it around the house. It is a powerful repellant. Powdered borax and castor sugar can be made use of as bait to trap the carpenter ants.
  • In extreme cases, carpenter ants can be found in the foundation of the house. The best thing to do is to replace the foundation.
  • One can place white gravel around the house as this would repel the carpenter ants. As it is dry it can be useful to check the carpenter ants.
  • Honey can be mixed with boric acid as a bait. Honey will attract the carpenter ants and boric acid will kill them.
  • Black pepper can be spread around the house.
  • Peppermint soap can also be used to get rid of carpenter ants.
  • Lavender oil as well as vinegar also keeps these pests away.
  • One can mix jojoba oil with lemon juice to be used to get rid of carpenter ants.
  • Placing a cinnamon stick at the entry points, as these carpenter ants do not cross over them due to strong smell of the spice.
