Diseases Associated with Obesity
Obesity, that is being overweight can causes several diseases. It is not good for health to be over-weight. Over-eating and eating indiscriminately leads to excessive weight gain. Foods that contain too much saturated fats and contain a lot of calories are not good for health.
Over-weight can not only mar one’s appearance but can cause many health complications. One must maintain healthy weight, in other words, normal weight. Eating the right kinds of foods that are healthy and contain lot of minerals and vitamins and are less in fats is essential for good health.
It is important to know in what way obesity can affect our health. Let us have a look.
Diseases caused due to obesity – Diseases Associated with Obesity
The primary diseases associated with obesity are:
- Cardiovascular disease – One can develop diseases of the heart. It can cause congestive heart failure. Heart can also get enlarged.
- One can develop Cor pulmonale, which is failure of the right side of one’s heart and is enlargement of right ventricular due to high blood pressure. This is caused due to chronic disease of the lungs.
- Varicose veins – Twisting and enlargement of the veins that occur mostly in the lower part of the body.
- Pulmonary embolism – This blockage of the pulmonary artery on account of blood clot, air, fat, Amniotic fluid. It results in difficulty in breathing and unstable circulation resulting in death.
- Gastrointestinal problems such as Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). Gallstones, Fatty Liver disease, Hernia, Colorectal cancer.
- Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)- Cysts, which are sacs filled with fluid in the ovaries which result in rather high levels of androgens, that is male hormones. It can also cause missed or irregular periods.
- Menstrual disorder – caused due to emotional or physical problems which interfere with regular menstrual cycle, thus causing pain and light or heavy bleeding. It can also result in delayed period or missed periods.
- Infertility – One cannot contribute to conceiving a child.
- Renal as well as Genitourinary which include Erectile Dysfunction, Urinary incontinence, Chronic renal failure etc.
- Breast Cancer.
- Diabetes.
- Uterine Cancer.
- Stillbirth.
Obesity is not good for one’s health. One must exercise and eat right. It is better to consult dietician to maintain proper weight.
