Dates is the staple food of the Mideast countries. There are several dates fruit health benefits. Its botanical name is Phoenix dactylifera. It is a sweet and dry laxative fruit. The fruit is mainly served as a dessert in the form of toppings for cakes and puddings. It is also incorporated in various other Middle Eastern and Mediterranean Cuisines.

Dates fruit is very rich in essential nutrients such as vitamins and minerals, which are beneficial for health. Dates supply energy within half an hour of consumption and is easily digested. Regular intake of dates ensure a check on the growth of pathological organisms and helps the intestinal friendly bacteria to grow.

Dates fruit is a source of various minerals, vitamins and other health benefits –

  • Minerals – Calcium, amino acids, iron, sulfur, magnesium, manganese, copper, phosphorous and potassium
  • Vitamins – Dates are rch source of vitamins A1, B1, B2, B3 and B5
  • Rich in dietary fiber and fats

Dates Fruit Health Benefits:
Following are some of the health benefits of dates –

  • Cough and Spasms – Make a paste out of dates, butter, saunph seeds, honey, pepper and raisins and take 1 tsp of this 2 times daily. This will help in getting rid of phlegm and would soothe respiratory spasms
  • Dry Mouth – After a prolonged illness the mouth generally becomes dry for few day and swallowing becomes difficult. In order to get rid of this problem make a paste out of raisins and dates. Coat the inside of the mouth with this for few minutes and that with a tsp of honey eat it
  • Hiccups – Hiccups generally goes with a glass of water. If it doesn’t than you might want to try this remedy. Mix the dates seed powder with pepper and lick it after mixing it with honey. Hiccups would generally go instantly
  • Constipation – Dates soaked in water make a great diuretics. Soak dates in hot milk for 2-3 hours and take it while going to bed. This preparation would ensure free bowel movement next morning
  • Memory – Some people recommend this fruit for memory disturbances. Not very sure if it helps but could give it a try
  • Helps in Digestion – Dates consists of 20 different kinds of amino acids, hence it aids in digestion. Thus, dates are easily digestible and gives a lot of energy
  • Weight Gain – Dates consists of fats, sugars, proteins and many vitamins, hence they are a part of healthy diet. 1 kilogram of dates have 3000 calories. When dates are eaten with cucumber paste, one can easily gain weight
  • Heart Health – Consumption of dates are beneficial for strengthening the heart
  • Sexual Weakness – Sexual weakness can be overcome by consuming dates. When dates are soaked in goat’s milk overnight and grounded in the morning with honey and cardamom, it increases sexual stamina
  • Diarrhea – Dates are rich in potassium, which can control diarrhea and can be easily digested
  • Intoxication – It is an excellent remedy for alcoholic people. It provides fast relief from alcoholic intoxication

Dates do not have any side-effects and acts as a tonic for all age groups.
