Constipation is defined as a common disorder of the digestive system. The general symptoms of constipation are irregular bowel movement and passing hard bowel. Constipation can be the leading cause of many diseases as it produces toxins, which get mixed in the blood, causing diseases like high blood pressure, cancer, cataracts, appendicitis, and arthritis. So, knowing the essential home remedies for constipation, causes, and symptoms is always helpful. The symptoms of constipation vary from person to person. Different reasons give rise to other symptoms.

Home Remedies for Constipation

Natural remedies for constipation are the best ways to cure the problem. Constipation can be a chronic disease that takes time to recover. So, practicing a healthy lifestyle is essential for curing constipation. Here are some of the home remedies for constipation –

  • Husk seed mixed with half a cup of hot milk is a perfect remedy for people suffering from chronic constipation.
  • Women can have one spoonful of ghee with hot milk every night to avoid constipation during pregnancy.
  • Half a lemon squeezed in hot water is a natural laxative.
  • Papaya has peptic acid, which is a perfect home remedy for constipation.

Various home remedies for constipation are readily available and effective, too. Below given are some of the readily available constipation home remedies.

  • Spinach – Mix 100 ml of raw spinach juice with 100 ml of water. Take the mixture twice daily. It is very effective against constipation.
  • Warm water – When you wake up in the morning, drink 2-3 glasses of warm water. Then you can go for a short walk. After some time, you will feel the urge to empty your bowels. It is the simplest home remedy for constipation.
  • Castor oil – Before going to bed, take a glass of milk mixed with two drops of castor oil. This will help in emptying the bowels in the morning.
  • Linseed – Take a tsp of linseed with water before each meal. It provides both roughage and lubrication. It will prevent constipation.
  • Dry figs – Soak 4-5 dry figs in some water and leave them overnight. Eat the figs and drink the water in the morning. This is a good home remedy for constipation.
  • Papaya – For breakfast, eat half of a medium-sized papaya. It acts like a laxative.
  • Cabbage juice – Drinking half a cup of cabbage juice twice daily is beneficial against constipation.
  • Fennel seeds – Add a few fennel seeds in lukewarm water. Take the mixture before going to bed at night.
  • Molasses – Take 2 tbsp of molasses before bed at night. It can also be added to milk or any fruit juice. It is a useful home constipation remedy.
  • Guava – Eating guava per day will keep constipation away. It is a good natural remedy for constipation.

Major Symptoms of Constipation

  • Bad breath is the most common symptom in a person suffering from constipation.
  • Stomach cramps or cramps in the lower abdomen are also a typical sign of constipation. It happens due to the irregular movement of the bowel in the stomach.
  • Another prevalent symptom of constipation is a coated tongue. A quick look at the tongue can determine the fact if the patient is suffering from constipation.
  • The skin becomes very dry and dull due to large amounts of toxins in the blood.
  • Sometimes, the patient with chronic constipation suffers from headaches and nausea. This is also due to the presence of toxins in the blood.

Causes of Constipation

The causes of constipation can be of different types. It may vary from person to person. The most important of these are:

  • Dietary irregularities and an unbalanced diet may cause constipation. A healthy and balanced diet always keeps a person fit, but an irregular diet, especially junk foods, creates constipation.
  • The most vital cause of constipation is having little water. Water is the most important digestive. A proper amount of daily water intake helps to soften the bowel.
  • Lack of exercise is one of the main causes of constipation.
  • Intake of caffeinated drinks and lower fiber oily food causes severe constipation.
  • Women during pregnancy may suffer from constipation. But it can be solved by following a proper diet and enough rest.

    My problem iz with my stomach,i contacted a nurse and she told me to eat roughage but my stomach persists to be constipated.could u help me on chemical practices to use.

    I was told that eating lots of spinach and cooked greens were great for constipation. Not in my case. When I eat them, I am more constipated than ever. I’ve tried metamucil everyday and it’s even worse. I’m tired of feeling like I’m in labor each time I am supposed to go. I have bloating and urges to go and because I’m so bloated all of the time, I urine a lot. I have bad smelling stools when I do have them which is seldom. I had a colonoscopy and they said everything is fine. What can I do?

    I heard that prune juice is a great remedy, so I tried it. I drank 2-8 ounce glasses to make sure that it would work and man did it ever. So I hope that this is helpful!

    hard stool, too big. won’t pass. some blood inside.of stool when I do pass. real hi bp went to VA. stayed 5 days, lots of meds, sort of went down. Quit beer. out of VA . moving around my bp goes low 84/54 from weekbefore 210/106 needless tosay i am dizzy and crosseyed.next day I take 1/2 dose of new meds. try to work /can’t walk up steps. 3rd take only original meds. bp 128/76, no beer “good chance alkie’.drink gallons of h20 and oj, good diet ,lo salt. good bkf cerial and egg. still got stool prbs. gonna try prune j. M
    P.S. VA’s great but there is no just calling . if you been there you know, there is nothing like a simple phone call or e mail. taking all those meds I might Deforest 1/2. of SW VA and a strip up to Beckley , that is if my pickup would hold up. some of us live alone and might be too proud to call911 over something that could be setteled by e mail or phone.
    bp’s great now,can work, scared of the 5’oClock somewhere. but that’s my choice lots of ice tea, oj, andwater.fill up with that first!

    Hi, I use prunes (the fruit itself) dried apricots and cranberries as well as eating chili. The spice stimulates the blood a bit, plus I use celery, peppers, onions and mushrooms as well as the meat. Melted (make sure its melted) cheese in small amounts helps me. COLD cheese will make it worse. If you like Mini-Wheat or Shreddies cereals or even Crispix, USE THESE. They will increase your dietary fibre. Oatmeal with raisins or any other kind of dried fruit will be an excellent easy to eat and digest assist to fixing constipation. Good Luck!
