Home Remedies for Whooping Cough

Whooping cough is a bacterial infection, which is capable of infecting human lungs and respiratory tracts. Also know as Pertussis, this infection is accompanied by cold and fever, apart from a bad stage of cough. It may also be accompanied by vomiting and conjunctivitis in eyes. Whooping cough may infect people from different age groups, including the infants less than 6 months of age. This disease takes a couple of weeks to leave the body of patient.

There are vaccinations available to treat and prevent this disease to occur. However, at a starting stage, whooping cough is eligible for getting treated by useful home remedies.

Here is the list of most dependable home remedies for whooping cough treatment:

  • Ginger with Honey Ginger is the natural remedy for a number of infections and when combined with honey, it has the capability to produce great results. In case of whooping cough, the patient must be given a mixture of fresh ginger juice and equal amount of honey.
  • Grapes Grapes are considered of great importance in the case of whooping cough, as they have the capability to refurbish the condition of human lungs by acting as expectorant. Grapes are helpful in restricting the enhancement in the stage of cough.
  • Onions – Onions are recommended by experts for effective treatment of whooping cough. The juice extracted from onions, mixed with honey, should be given to the patient two times a day. The effect of this remedy appears in few days of treatment.
  • Aniseeds Aniseeds have the herbal qualities to act as a perfect home remedy for whooping cough. It could be added to the tea given to the patient to relieve his body from this irritating infection.
  • Almonds Almonds also possess the capability to treat whooping cough at early stage. Almond juice, mixed with fresh ginger juice, is a recommended home remedy for this lung infection. It must be given at regular intervals of day to exhibit early results.
  • Garlic Apart from onions and ginger, garlic is also included in the list of home remedies for whooping cough. Extract the juice from garlic slices and give it to the patient at least twice a day. This remedy is expected to show positive signs of improvement in 2-3 days.
  • Radish It is also advised to consume fresh juice extracted from radish, along with few drops of honey added to it. Also, it is of great value to add a pinch of rock salt to it, in order to deliver flavor to it.
  • Other home remedies like raisins, turmeric and belleric myroblan must be considered for treating whooping cough.

Symptoms
Whooping cough starts with sore throat and tiredness, within 3 days it may become dry cough. This condition continues for 7 to 10 days and cough may become slightly productive with little phlegm. After 2 weeks, chocking cough- that last for 1 to 2 minutes, may start; the patient may vomit after the cough. This chocking cough may attack 2 to 15 times a day. Normally, Whooping cough will continue for 2 to 3 weeks or it depends on the kind of treatment patient is undergoing.

Diet for Whooping Cough
Along with the herbal remedies, sufficient rest and proper diet will ease you off the painful and harassing symptoms of whooping cough. Following is a diet plan for the patients suffering from Whooping Cough:

  • Orange juice– orange juice is rich in Vitamin-C that fights against infections and infestations. Having a glass of orange twice a day will help your body to fight against the bacteria and also improve your immunity
  • fruit diet-eating fresh juicy fruits like grapes, oranges, pineapples, peaches, apples, pears, and melons will increase your immunity
  • Balanced diet– diet containing whole grain cereals, lightly cooked vegetables or raw vegetables and fat-free preparations will help body to fight the disease in a better way
  • Avoid tea, coffee, condiments, pickles, meats, sugar refined and processed foods, soft drinks, candies, ice-cream

Apart from these, there are some dietary recommendations for rapid recovery from whooping cough. These include fruits like apple, grapes, melons, pears, along with orange juice. Also, raw vegetables must be included in the diet of patient, along with cereals in balanced amount.
