What Early Marriage Problems Youngsters Can Face?

Teenagers are going in for early marriage these days. They prefer to settle down in life and have a home of their own. It sounds very exciting and no doubt very romantic. Most of these youngsters feel that they are old enough to handle life’s problems on their own and not with the help of their parents. They also feel they are made for each other and need to strengthen the ties further by entering into marriage. Teenage pregnancy is also a major problems society is facing. Many do not prefer getting aborted and would like to have a family of their own.

In some less developed societies, the practice of child marriage is in vogue still. Many children are forced to settle down in marriage due to social and economic compulsions.

Early marriage has its own set of problems. Teenagers may prefer to tie the knot despite perhaps parental objections, but they need to know what is in store for them before taking such a decision.

Early Marriage Problems

  • Health has to be taken care of: Early pregnancy can affect the health. The stresses and strains of marriages can tell on the body systems.
  • Unable to pursue education further: Many youngsters have to give up on education after marriage. They are unable to get the time to devote for studies. They miss out on many opportunities in life on account of this.
  • Coping up with financial responsibility: Youngsters need to set up a home of their own and bear all the costs of running the house and taking care of the family. They generally do not like to take help from their parents as they have decided to venture out on their own. It is not easy to bear all the financial expenses at such an early age, as they are not so educated to earn a lot of money. Marrying before the completion of education can prove to be a costly affair. Tight financial situation can also lead to tensions within the relationships.
  • Deprivation of youth: Teenagers lose out on fun and frolic by marrying early. Since they have to shoulder responsibility at an early age, they do not have time for leisure and relaxation.
  • Problem of parents in law: Dealing with parents-in-law at an early age can create problems within the relationship. They may not have the experience to deal with them and that could be burdensome.
  • Lack of personal maturity can make it difficult for teenagers to handle situations. They often quarrel over petty issues, and sometimes end up in an early divorce.
  • Irresponsibility can also mar the relationship. Youngsters are generally rash and do as they please. They often do not pay heed to elders’ advice. They at times react emotionally, not rationally.
  • Emotional and psychological stress due to inexperience can create disharmony between the young couple. Handling everything on their own, at an early age can be difficult and demanding.
  • An early divorce may be imminent on account of incompatibility and lack of understanding due to immaturity.
  • Lack of experience in bringing up children could generate ill-feelings towards each other. Having to live on their own and with no guidance from adults can cause much strain on the young couple, who have to handle children at an early age.

Early marriages are on the increase due to social pressures, although some women prefer to be independent and lead their lives on their own without the assistance of a man. Teenagers feel very grown up and decide their life on their own. They often feel marriage can strengthen their relationship and solve the problem of teenage pregnancy. It all sounds very cool, but definitely there are many problems to be faced.
