asthmaAsthma, which is a chronic lung disease, narrows and inflames the airways. One experiences recurring wheezing ( a whistling breathing sound), shortness of breath, chest tightness as well as coughing. The coughing occurs in the morning or at night. A person of any age is affected by it. It begins in early childhood.

Home Remedies for Asthma

  • One needs to perspire through a steam bath, hot hip bath, or sunbath as the skin will get stimulated and the lungs will be relieved of congestion.
  • Honey is also useful to treat asthma. One needs to place a jug consisting of honey under the nose. The patient starts breathing freely in no time. The other option is to mix a teaspoonful of honey in a glass of water and take it 3 times a day.
  • One can boil garlic cloves in thirty grams of milk daily and give it to the patient.
  • A teaspoonful of turmeric powder mixed in a glass of milk can be taken 2-3 times a day. Beneficial if taken on an empty stomach.
  • One can have steaming tea made of ginger consisting of minced garlic cloves twice a day.
  • Inhalation of the steam of boiling water to be mixed with ajwain (caraway seeds).
  • At the time of the attack, one needs to mix mustard oil with some camphor and massage at the back of the chest.
  • Blend honey, radish, and lemon juice together and mix it for about 20 minutes and then cook it in a small pan on less flame. Take a teaspoonful of it every morning.
  • Place half a teaspoon of licorice root tea in a cup of hot water. After waiting for 10 minutes, strain it and then drink it. This is a very effective home remedy.
  • Sitting in fresh air is very good.
  • Figs are very good. They drain off the phlegm. Clean 3 to 4 figs with warm water and soak them overnight.
  • Mix the juice of a lemon in water and drink it during meals.
  • Mix gooseberry ( 5 Gms) with a tablespoon of honey and take it as a medicinal tonic.
  • Bitter gourd roots are also very useful. Take 1 teaspoon of the paste of the root and mix it with the same amount of honey or juice of Basil leaves. Give it once every night for a month
  • Soup prepared with drumsticks leaves, to be taken once every day. Add some drumstick leaves to 180ml of water, boil it for 5 minutes.
  • Take half a teaspoon of bishop’s weed and mix it with a glass of buttermilk and take it twice a day. It gives relief from difficult expectoration, which is caused due to dried-up phlegm
  • Half teaspoon of the powder of dry safflower seeds to be mixed with a tablespoon of honey and taken once or two times a day.

Much relief is required for an asthma patient to breathe freely. Home remedies can prove to be quite beneficial in providing the required relief.
