Prickly Heat Prevention and Home Remedies

In summer one faces the problem of prickly heat, especially in places where the temperatures are very high. Due to the blockage of sweat glands prickly heat occurs. The affected spots become very itchy and one finds them very intolerable. One experiences much discomfort due to this prickly heat.

Prickly heat occurs in the form of tiny blisters which are itchy. One tends to scratch them for relief. They spread over the back, neck and arms.

In summer, one has to try to avoid as much discomfort caused by sweat and blockage of sweat glands, such as prickly heat. One tends to get overexposed to the sun’s ultra violet rays which causes prickly heat and sunburn. How to avoid prickly heat and deal with it?

Prickly heat prevention

  • One must wear natural fiber cotton clothes to avoid getting overexposed to the sun.
  • Protect the head with scarf or any headgear.
  • Drink plenty of water and cooling fluids.
  • Wipe the perspiration with the help of a clean towel or tissue.
  • Try to keep the skin dry.
  • One can apply lotion or cream which has minimum SPF 15.
  • Wear loose fitting clothes.
  • Avoiding wearing synthetic fibers.

Home Remedies for prickly heat

  • One can apply lotion or cream which has minimum SPF 15.
  • Use a cold compress to release the existing heat from within the skin.
  • Avoid greasy moisturizers as they will increase the formation of blisters.
  • One can use Aloe Vera as it contains anti- lavender as well as chamomile oils. It is safe and children also can use it.
  • Keep the body cool by taking cool fluids, fruits and vegetables.
  • Herbal remedies such as arrow root powder can be used.
  • One can rub a piece of fresh diakon radish or perhaps a raw potato over the affected rash area.
  • One can have a sponge bath with ginger, which will increase circulation.
  • Chinese herbal medicines are also used internally in case the prickly heat is widespread. Externally, they can be used for small areas of rash.
  • Avoid eating spicy food.
  • Drink plenty of fresh juices as it cools down the system.
  • One must cooling fruits such as watermelons, cucumbers, bananas etc.
  • Do not take warm and hot baths.
  • Rub ice cubes on the body to get rid of burning sensation, as well as itching sensation.
  • Mix some powdered gram with water and apply it on the spots, allowing it to dry naturally. When it starts to peel off, wash it off with warm water. The dead cells of the skin get washed away and one gets required relief from inflammation.
  • Mix fullers earth with water and add a few drops of rose water in order to make a paste. Apply the paste to the affected area. Wash it off when the paste dries off. The rose water helps in reducing the itching sensation as well as the inflammation. The fueller’s earth helps prevent the bacteria from spreading.

Prickly heat can be quite irritating. If one takes necessary precautions one can avoid it. Otherwise, natural remedies are available to cure it.

  • Do try ice cold whole milk. First, you drop cold whole milk into a bowl, apply it to the sunburned part on your face and generously dab it on with something soft like cotton balls. Regardless of the mess, you may also dip your hands into the bowl and apply cold milk liberally as you wish. Your face will definitely feel much cooler and much less painful
  • Do apply shaving cream. After you enjoy a milk bath on your face, dry your face and apply a generous layer of shaving cream. By providing immediate sunburn relief, shaving cream helps soothe pain. What you simply need to do is to squirt a small amount of shaving cream into the palm of your hand, and tenderly apply it to the burn as long as possible. Pay sufficient caution around your eyes
  • Do use cold tea bags. Cold tea bags are beneficial for sunburned eyes and lips. Make sure to put the tea bags in cold water, squeeze out the excess tea and then lay the tea bags over your closed eyelids and mouth as much as you want. Your sunburned eyelids and lips will safely and effectively get cooler

Don’ts for a Sunburned Face

  • Don’t apply cream or use products that contain chemical acid
  • Don’t pop any blisters on your face. Don’t apply any lotion or gel to blisters
  • Don’t touch your face with hands and dpn’t use natural lotion or chemical soap
  • Don’t be exposed to the sun until your sunburn has healed and your face is no longer red or pink
  • Don’t be pushy about your treatments, since the pushier you are, the worse your face will become. Have patience

    when i walk or take a shower the prickly spots make it unbearable. i stop walking or turn the water temperature down and it goes away??
