What is Skill related Fitness all about

Skill related fitness, coordination, balance, power, speed as well as reaction time, these qualities are very important for a person be it in athletics or even otherwise. It is the ability to do well in sports, activities concerning work as well as daily activities.

Health fitness concerns itself with health, whereas fitness skills are directly linked to performance in sports. The latter is very essential in case one is participating in sports. Not only adults but even kids are being trained to develop such fitness qualities.

The Agriculture Research Service (ARS) is funding several innovative as well as kid-friendly strategies in order to lose weight and also gain much nutrition based savvy and plus physical oriented fitness skills.

What comprises skill related fitness?
Skill related fitness is directly associated with one’s ability to perform well in various activities that are physical in nature, including sports. The following are some aspects of concerning fitness related to skill:

  • Agility – One’s ability to move the body quickly, for example walking or running is what agility is all about. Many people do regular exercises to remain agile. Even in sports activities one has to be very agile. For example, in the game of tennis one has to be able to reach quickly for the ball. Usually, young people are more agile as compared to older people, as they can move and walk quickly. Older people exercise and walk regularly to remain agile.
  • Coordination – This is very essential in sports as one must be able to use various parts of the body in a coordinated way. One’s movements must be smooth. The hands, legs and other parts of the body must move in a coordinated way.
  • Balance – One must remain in an equilibrium even while one is moving around or walking. One must not fall down while walking or stumble. Activities such as skiing, gymnastics as well as ballet requires proper balance.
  • Power – This refers to the force that one applies to perform a particular task. For example, a tennis athlete must apply a lot of force by his or her hand in order to hit the ball.
  • Speed – This is one’s ability to move around from one spot to another spot as quickly as possible. Runners required a lot of speed. Older people take more time to reach a particular spot as compared to younger people.

Why skill related fitness
All sports people require these qualities in order to perform well. They practice hard to develop these physical qualities. Coaches guide them. Usually sports people are of a younger age group. As one grows older, one loses out on many of these faculties. Runners have to develop cardiovascular fitness in order to sustain a marathon race. He or she also has to undergo cardio-respiratory tests. A tennis player has to develop the power to hit the ball and also coordinate his her activities. In a circus walking on the rope requires balance.

Unless and until one develops these fitness related qualities one will find it difficult to be an achiever. An achiever has to work very hard and undergo rigorous training to develop these qualities.

Fitness goals
One must set up goals in order to practice fitness related skills. A runner, for example, knows that he or she has to reach the finish line within a span of time. He or she has to practice hard in order to acquire muscular fitness and also cardio-respiratory strength.

Every individual wants to remain fit. Regular exercise coupled with proper diet can help one remain agile and in good shape for a longer period of time.
