What Early Marriage Problems Youngsters Can Face?

Teenagers are going in for early marriage these days. They prefer to settle down in life and have a home. It sounds fascinating and, no doubt, very romantic. Most of these youngsters feel that they are old enough to handle life’s problems on their own and not with the help of their parents. They also think they are made for each other and must strengthen the ties further by entering a marriage. Teenage pregnancy is also a significant problem society is facing. Many do not prefer getting aborted and would like to have a family.

In some less-developed societies, child marriage is still in vogue. Many children are forced to settle down in marriage due to social and economic compulsions.

Early marriage has its own set of problems. Teenagers may prefer to tie the knot despite perhaps parental objections, but they need to know what is in store for them before making such a decision.

Early Marriage Problems

1. Health has to be taken care of

Early pregnancy can affect the health. The stresses and strains of marriage can tell on the body systems. Young bodies are not fully prepared for childbirth. This leads to complications in pregnancy. Emotional turmoil, when added to the responsibilities of a marriage, affects the mental well-being of both partners.

2. Unable to pursue education further

Many youngsters have to give up on education after marriage. They are unable to get the time to devote to their studies. They miss out on many opportunities in life on account of this. Lack of higher education restricts growth opportunities in a professional life and hampers the earning potential. The educational break also distances couples from peers and affects their social circle in the future.

3. Coping up with financial responsibility

Youngsters must set up a home and bear all the costs of running the house and caring for the family. They generally prefer to avoid getting help from their parents as they have decided to venture out independently. It is difficult to bear all the financial expenses early, as they are not educated enough to earn much money. Marrying before the completion of education can prove to be a costly affair. A tight financial situation can also lead to tensions within the relationships. Young couples might be unable to handle sudden economic challenges due to health, mortgage, or similar issues. Limited income at an early age adds to difficulties and further hampers future needs.

4. Deprivation of youth

Teenagers lose out on fun and frolic by marrying early. Since they have to shoulder responsibility early on, they need more time for leisure and relaxation. This deprivation also stifles their personal growth and development. Life experiences like traveling or getting involved in hobbies get compromised as young couples are busy making ends meet. They get cut off from their group and might be unable to interact with age-matched friends.

5. Problem of parents-in-law

Dealing with parents-in-law at an early age can create problems within the relationship. They need to gain the experience to deal with them, which could be burdensome. This leads to additional stress and emotional toll on the young couple. Young couples have difficulties in balancing relations with both sets of families. In some cultures, interference from in-laws can further derail the freedom of young couples.

6. Personal Maturity

A lack of personal maturity can make it difficult for teenagers to handle situations. They quarrel over petty issues and end up in an early divorce. This lack of maturity also makes navigating complex emotions and conflicts challenging. The couple also face challenges growing together due to different maturation rates. A lack of maturity also hampers reconciliation after disputes.

7. Irresponsibility

Irresponsibility can also mar the relationship. Youngsters are generally rash and do as they please. They often need to pay heed to elders’ advice. They, at times, react emotionally, not rationally. Such impulsiveness leads to irreversible mistakes and regrets. They also struggle to make collective decisions. They generally make impromptu decisions without considering long-term consequences.

8. Stress

Emotional and psychological stress due to inexperience can create disharmony between the young couple. Handling everything independently at an early age can be complex and demanding. This stress manifests in physical ailments and deteriorates mental health over time. Young couples rarely have effective coping strategies. Due to this, chronic stress is not uncommon and can affect intimacy and mutual understanding.

9. Immaturity

Due to immaturity, an early divorce may be imminent due to incompatibility and lack of understanding. Immaturity hinders the ability to make reasoned, long-term decisions that benefit the relationship. Immaturity can make the couple more susceptible to external influences.

10. Experience

Lack of experience in raising children could generate ill feelings towards each other. Living independently and without adult guidance causes much strain on the young couple, who have to handle children at an early age. This lack of experience impacts not only their relationship but also the well-being of their children. The couple’s lack of essential parenting skills leads to ineffective child-rearing practices.

Conclusion

Early marriages are increasing due to social pressures, although some women prefer to be independent and lead their lives on their own without the assistance of a man. Teenagers feel very grown up and decide their lives on their own. They often think marriage can strengthen their relationship and solve the problem of teenage pregnancy. It all sounds very cool, but there are many problems to face.
