We are the responsible citizens of a health conscious community. Our primary objectives are hence decided to be eating healthy, maintaining a healthy weight and staying fit. But busy schedules and hectic metropolitan lifestyle have moved us far away from those healthy habits if staying fit. We are no more in trouble of waiting for the foods to ripen, pick them from their branches and keep it on our dinner plates all set to consume. The food industry has made several advancements to reduce efforts and lessen the waiting time from the ripening of foods to be placed on our dinner tables. The solution made by them is the frozen foods.

Making choices over food are not very easy. Advanced food science has changed our way of eating dramatically. Frozen foods are much easy to get and are cheap too. But, do we know about their after effects? Is frozen food as healthy as the fresh foods? Shall we always choose the fresh Fs over the easily available, not much expensive frozen Fs? Let us have a clear picture. It is never acceptable to make moves that can claim our health.

Nutrient analysis in Fresh Foods over Frozen Foods

Fresh Foods – the nutritive value of fresh foods is higher than frozen or canned foods. Though, the FDA claims the nutritive value to be unaffected over processing and storing. Most of the nutritionists claim that the best results are obtained when the fresh foods are immediately bought, cut and eaten.

Frozen Foods – frozen foods may not be capable of supplying with the requisite amount of nutrients. These are never equal in the nutrients present in fresh foods.

Taste comparison

Fresh Foods – fresh foods certainly tastes better, keeping the fresh fragrance of the food intact. Since these are consumed afresh, hence are healthier.

Frozen foods – these foods are no more in their very natural form. Hence the fragrance, taste and the feeling of freshness is affected a lot.

Addition of preservatives

Fresh Foods – fresh foods are without any artificial preservatives. Thus, these are easily absorbed by our body systems.

Frozen Foods – several preservatives are added to the frozen foods to avoid spoilage. We must not consume them on a daily basis, as they can increase the risk of cancers and other digestive ailments. Frozen foods can be preferred only when compared to those vegetables and fruits which have been lying there for a while and are not fresh enough.

Preparation time

Fresh Foods – fresh foods take lesser time to cook over frozen foods. Their low temperature storage reduces their cooking time.

Frozen Foods – frozen foods take longer time to be cooked. They need thawing also prior to cooking, which increases their cooking time.

Spoilage and longevity

Fresh Foods – spoiling is very easy in fresh foods. Since they are much away from the reach of preservatives, their life time is just about a few days. Bacteria and fungus can attack on the fresh foods the soonest.

Frozen Foods – you no more have to wait to have the seasonal foods now. You may always have them available with frozen or canned varieties of preserving. Frozen techniques are good to delay spoiling and prevent wasting of foods.
