Hypnosis is gaining wider acceptance among hospitals and research institutes as an effective technique to help people quit the smoking habit. The American Cancer Society recommends hypnosis as a stop-smoking technique. Several studies have also shown that hypnosis increases the ability of the participants to quit smoking. A lot of people who smoke that wish to quit the habit, try out a quit smoking hypnosis technique to try to eliminate their dependency on nicotine. What precisely does this technique involve and is it truly effective in doing just what it claims to?

Hypnosis Quit Smoking
Hypnosis can make an image in your thoughts to substitute the enjoyment and satisfaction you get from smoking cigarettes with something else entirely. It can help you get relaxation from a different trigger and will even place an adverse association with cigarettes in your head. Hypnotherapy may also break the connection of smoking with specific circumstances and so break your conditioned response which induces craving during these situations.

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is an alert state of mind where a person is more open to suggestions and can change his/her behaviors, attitudes, and thoughts. Hypnotherapy enables people to gain more control over their emotions and behavior

Hypnosis is brought about by a method known as hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy can be done by a hypnotherapist or can also be done by yourself. This method of inducing hypnosis by oneself is known as self-hypnosis.

How Hypnosis Helps to Quit Smoking?

Hypnosis is a technique of changing the thought pattern but it shouldn’t be mistaken for a cure for smoking cigarettes. It could certainly redirect the habit into something more healthy and even more beneficial however the behavior of the addict has to be supervised. In essence, you have to work consciously to subdue the longing and create a whole new way of life.

A hypnotherapist initially leads you to hypnosis by speaking in a soothing and gentle voice. This brings you to a state of relaxation, where you are more alert to suggestions. During this relaxed state of mind, the hypnotherapist would be giving you suggestions to control the urge to smoke and ways to reduce withdrawal symptoms. The hypnotherapist can also stimulate your imagination by creating positive mental images.

Hypnosis to quit smoking works as you would be mentally alert and focused while listening to the suggestions. This will help you to change your behaviors, thoughts, and feel towards smoking. Over time you would be confident enough to stay away from cigarettes.

To achieve success in a hypnosis session, you will want to see a hypnotist which makes you feel relaxed and also at ease, and one which has a structured quit smoking plan. The simplest way to do it would be to include hypnosis as part of your over-all quit-smoking plan. Mixing it with techniques, it is possible to accomplish your goal and stop once and for all. You weren’t born a smoker. You discovered the habit of smoking. By means of hypnotherapy along with other methods, you’ll once again discover how to become a non-smoker

Study Proves that Hypnosis Helps to Quit Smoking

A study was conducted by San Fransisco VA Medical Center and the University of California-San Fransisco to determine the effect of hypnosis on the smoking habit. About 286 participants were divided into two groups. One group received counseling and the other received hypnotherapy. The researchers found out that the group which received hypnosis found it very helpful. Hypnosis was especially effective for smokers dealing with depression.

Other studies conducted show that persons who have received hypnotherapy are 50% more likely to quit smoking than people who did not. Hence, if you are tired of trying, hypnosis to quit smoking may be effective for you.

Bad habits are very difficult to stop and cigarette smoking is one of them. When you begin smoking it is extremely hard to stop. This happens not because there are no methods of quit smoking but because the individual does not have the determination to stop smoking. All is determined by your motivation and with hypnotherapy, you are able to increase your willingness to quit.

It’s scary to know that how powerful this technique is. It can make people to leak out their biggest secret. It can be dangerous. Yet, if this technique is being used for medical purposes, it can be a very wonderful solution without having to go through surgeries or long term medication.
