There cannot be one simple answer to this question. There are several factors which determine the dressing choices made by women. Though the number of these choices remained static for quite some time in the past, the list is becoming endless off late. Why the number of factors influencing women dressing is increasing day by day is a more pertinent question now.

Why Women Dress the Way They Do?

In the past, the very few factors which influenced the dressing sense in women were feeling confident from the validation which came along proper dressing, gaining male attention and experimenting with personal looks.

The origin of these factors were very much in tune with the very being of women. They did require external validation for feeling confident, they loved the attention and compliments from the opposite sex and a touch of creativity in every aspect of life is a woman’s birth right and dressing is no exception.

There were always very few women who dared to break the traditional norms of dress code in the society. Most of them were strong enough to face the criticisms and yet believe in their choices. They were the trend-setters and earned the respect of a generation of young women inspired by them.

Then came an age of liberalization and women empowerment. Women finally earned the well deserved equality in every aspect of life and society. As they started to prove their worth and gain power, their level of confidence increased many folds. They were not in need of some external validation to feel good anymore.

Neither they were at the mercy of the approval from men in any area of life. So the aspect of dressing to please men or keep them in mind did not arise anymore. Factors like dressing professionally as per the occasion or showcase the hard earned figure close to perfection became the norm. The only one aspect of the past which still lives on is the urge to be creative and experiment with the look. But, sometimes there are certain clandestine motives hidden behind coming up with new looks.

Lack of inhibition from any corner of the society, financial independence and merited position in the society are some of the potent and new factors settling down in the minds of women. They are compelling feeling-centric, heart-oriented women become logic-centric and mind-oriented beings alike men. The influence of these factors can be clearly seen in the dressing choices made by the modern women in any city of the world.

Rebelling in the name of fashion is a new and popular trend. This urge to rebel is not out of oppression and natural in origin as was the case in the past. But, this dressing style is rather meant to even the score with the men.

Conclusion: There is aggression, an intent to make a statement and even lack of taste in the way women want to dress themselves today. All these gestures are probably the psychological signs of outbursts caused by the long periods of oppression and injustice subjected by the men and the society on the fairer sex.

    Paul’s Contribution
There are multiple reasons for it. While some women like Elizabeth Taylor openly confess that they dress to grab the attention of the men, the rest resort to weird replies only to sound mysterious.

Extrovert and confident women look at their dressing sense and attire they wear as an extension of their persona. Depending on the occasion, they dress in a manner which sends the right signals to the concerned people on right time.

These women are also mentally flexible enough to break the convention and express their creativity by wearing different clothes. The experiences add different facet to their known persona.

Introvert and shy women concern a lot about the reactions of the people rather than experiencing the personal pleasure involved in the act.

Some times these women dress up to seek the approval of others they are less aware of their self image. Acceptance and assurances increase the faith of these women on their own persona.

While men have a logical answer for dressing up, women prefer to keep reply more than being a straight forward one.

Irrespective of the reason behind why women dress the way they do, the facts remains that an impression is always made. While a well-dressed woman can probably make other women jealous, it is not less than a visual treat for all men. Until nobody is complaining, let the treatment continue… What Say Guys!!!
