Home Remedies for Conjunctivitis
Inflammation of the eyes is known as conjunctivitis. The eyes turn red and itchy. The conjunctiva gets inflamed, which happens to be a thin membrane covering the eye.
Home Remedies for Conjunctivitis
Most effective home remedies for Conjunctivitis are:
- Mix 2 teaspoonful of chamomile flowers, 1 teaspoonful of Oregon grape root and 2 cups of boiling water. Let it sit for about 20 minutes cool and strain and use it as eyewash.
- Use calendula in viral and bacterial conjunctivitis to reduce inflammation and itching. It has healing and soothing properties. It is more of an antiseptic. One can use it as compress and eyewash. It is available as eye-drops.
- Take a potato and cut into pieces and place the pieces on the eyes affected by conjunctivitis.
- Use a lotion made of Vitamin A to be applied directly.
- One can eat raw fennel or have it as tea. One can use it as eyewash as well.
- Eyebright herb can be put in drops. It is better than the commercial eye-drops and safer.
- Goldenseal is a natural antibiotic and anti-inflammatory.
- Make tea with goldthread. It is helpful in the treatment of inflammation and infection of the eyes. It is a good pain reliever. It can be used as eyewash.
- Apply a warm compress on your eyes 5 to 10 minutes for about 3 to 4 times in a day.
- Clean up the eyes with a cotton ball dipped in sterile water.
- Raw vegetable juice particularly that of spinach and carrot is very effective in the treatment of conjunctivitis.
- Take food rich in Vitamin B2 and A such as curd, milk, butter, carrots, green leafy vegetables, almonds, tomatoes, mangoes, citrus fruits, papaya and mangoes.
- Wash the eyes with water containing crushed coriander leaves.
- Avoid starch and sugary foods.
- Keep a towel which is soaked in cold water over the eyes. Cover it with a warm towel to keep up the temperature. Let it be for one hour every night for a week.
- Place moist chamomile tea-bag over the eyes for about 10 minutes. Repeat the procedure every three 3 hours.
