    How to Tackle Depression

    Tackle depressionLow feelings, not interested in life and lack of appetite could mean that one is suffering from depression. One does not have the desire to live any more. Life is drab and dull. Everything around seems to appear insignificant. One also finds it difficult to maintain relationships. In fact, when one is undergoing depression, one’s personal relationships get affected. Those around you are unable to be understanding and sympathetic at times. Personal grooming is not there and one appears filthy and dirty at times.

    Depression often sets in when one loses a job or loses a loved one. At times, one’s circumstances may also cause depression. Frequent cause of sadness may be on account of depression and one has to consult one’s doctor about it.

    Depression is a difficult phase indeed. One needs a lot of understanding from others and also has to make a conscious effort to overcome it. Mostly it is to do with one’s thinking. Negativity in a person makes one feels very depressed.

    How to tackle depression?
    Below are some of the few top ways to tacke dipression:

    • One must consult one’s doctor and let him know how he or she feels.
    • In case medication is prescribed by the specialist then one must take it according to the prescribed dosage. One must not stop the medication on one’s own in case one is feeling better. It is the doctor who decides when to stop the medication.
    • One must take the medication at a particular time and also adhere to required dosage and not stop it in between. It must become a routine habit.
    • One need not feel negative about taking the medication. If one needs glasses one wears them and similarly if one has to tie a cast on one’s arm one does so. Similarly, medication for depression is nothing one needs to feel bad about.
    • One must inform one’s loved one’s that one is on medication. Also one must not avoid medication in case one required it as one may become suicidal or abusive in behavior which in turn may affect one’s relationship with others. In fact, it is others who may notice the difference in behavior and attitude.
    • Keep record of your feeling and try to get over negative thoughts. You will feel in a winner in changing your behavior and attitudes.
    • Try to seek the company of those who are more understanding and sympathetic and who will help you in getting over the depression.
    • One must exercise daily as it is good for anxiety and depression.
    • One must not isolate oneself as this may make one feel more lonely and depressed.
    • One must take healthy food rather than crave for junk food , which only adds calories.
    • One must engage oneself in any interesting hobby as that would activate the mind and make one feel more useful.
    • Listen to favorite music.
    • Meet friends whose company you enjoy.
    • Share your inner most concerns and worries with a close friend.
    • Try to make positive choices each day for yourself as it would make you feel better.

    Depression is a temporary phase and one can overcome it if one so desires. It is not difficult to do so. Of course, for some people it may take more time, but others may overcome it easily. Although, many people fail to appreciate mental health problem, but with understanding and concern a depressed person can get over his or her illness. These days, with changing lifestyles, where one is under tremendous emotional pressure, depression has become very common.
